Atlanta: CDC and Fernbank Museum Day Trip

Dr. Katherine Wilson, who worked as a behavioral Scientist at the Centers for Disease Control for 27 years, will lead OLLI members on a visit to the CDC on May 17. This day trip is offered in conjunction with Dr. Wilson’s OLLI class on the CDC on May 15th, but one does not have to take the class to participate in this trip. The special exhibit at the CDC during May will be; Ebola; People + Public Health+ Political Will, an investigation of the historic 2014-2016 Ebola Fever Virus Epidemic in West Africa. Come on the trip and see how the CDC in Atlanta works 24/7 to keep us safe from disease and epidemics.

Following our morning visit to the CDC Museum we will eat lunch at one of the several restaurants in the area and then take a short bus ride to the Fernbank Natural History Museum. There we will have time to visit the permanent natural history exhibits including

“Giants of the Mesozoic” and “A Walk Through Time in Georgia”. If the weather Is nice you may want to take advantage of the 75 acres of outdoor adventures in the WildWoods and the Fernbank Forest. Individuals will also have the opportunity to purchase separate tickets to see one of the nature shows on the I-Max theatre screens.

The cost of this trip will be $82.00 per person. This includes the bus fare and admission fees to the CDC and the Fernbank Museum. (Note: Admission to the CDC requires a photo ID such as a driver’s license or valid passport.) Lunch is not included and will be at your choice of several restaurants in the area of the CDC; admission to the I-Max theatres at the Fernbank is also not included in this fee. Individuals should be capable of walking two blocks from the CDC museum to the restaurants and of standing to see the museum exhibits.
