Notice: Dawg.Bytes – OLLI’s popular information technology SIG – has a new name and a new home. The group has moved to the Athens Clarke County Library. It is being merged with Tech Tips. Tech Tips is an ongoing program that SIG Leader Les Shindelman has been conducting at the library over the past year. The monthly meetings – resuming in September – will be the third Thursday of each month at the library on Baxter Street from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Members will find plenty of free parking, free WiFi, and easily accessible classrooms. Details about the group can be found on the library’s website starting August 30th. Members will be able to signup to receive announcements of upcoming meetings, view a calendar and have access to meeting presentations, in addition to the many computer lab options the library already offers. The OLLI Doc(umentary) Buffs special interest group is pleased to present the four-part BBC series “Putin, Russia, & the West” in two 2-hour screenings in July at the Special Collections Library. This series, which won a 2012 George Foster Peabody Award, provides the background and analysis that are essential to understanding our world today. Series overview: Putin began his career as a KGB spy. But when he became President, he made himself an ally of the West. How did he do it? And what made Washington turn against him? For the first time Putin’s top colleagues – and the Western statesmen who eventually clashed with him – tell the inside story of one of the world’s most powerful men. Dates and times: Thursday, July 6, 2:30-5:00 pm (parts 1-2) and Thursday, July 27, 2:30-5:00 pm (parts 3-4). Screenings are free and open to the public. You do not need to be a member of the Doc Buffs SIG to attend.
