Monte Broaded – President
Monte Broaded is a comparative sociologist, now retired, who specialized in the study of contemporary Chinese social issues. In the 1980s and 1990s he conducted several large-scale survey research projects in mainland China and Taiwan. He taught at the University of Pittsburgh for more than a decade, and then spent a year and a half in the School of Asian Studies at the University of Sydney in Australia. From 2000 to 2015 he served as Director of the Center for Global Education at Butler University in Indianapolis, where he managed the university’s extensive international programs and relationships. Having spent the first half of his career focused on China, he was very pleased to spend the second half engaged with all the other important and interesting regions of the world as well. He and his wife, Eleanor, moved to the Athens area in mid-2015 and quickly became involved with OLLI and other community groups and associations. He is currently pursuing an interest in ceramics at OCAF in Watkinsville. He also enjoys cycling, playing pickleball and racquetball, and playing a little classical guitar when he thinks no-one is listening.
Christ Jones – President Elect
Chris Jones graduated from UGA in Journalism and then became a radio news and sports reporter in Athens and Atlanta before a 40-year career in public relations and public affairs. An Accredited Member of the Public Relations Society of America (APR), Chris is a licensed broadcast engineer and a graduate of the Public Affairs Council’s Senior Public Affairs Institute. He is an emeritus member of UGA’s Henry Grady College of Journalism Board of Trust and a member of Leadership Georgia Alumni. He and his wife, Toni, a retired teacher, moved to Oconee County in 2015 and have been active members of OLLI@UGA serving as class hosts, class host coordinators, and on the Curriculum committee.
Tim Meehan – Executive Director
Tim Meehan became Executive Director in 2017, having spent ten years developing the non-profits and businesses associated with St Andrew Holborn in London, England. Born in Coventry, England he read Classics (Greek and Latin) at King’s College, London gaining both a Bachelor’s and Master’s. He immigrated to the US with his Virginia-born wife and two children. He is a keen musician and runner, although he is still getting used to the amount of hills around Athens.
